Lagoa das Sete Cidades

A Lagoa das Sete Cidades is located at the bottom of the caldeira Sete Cidades , in the parish of the same name, in Ponta Delgada.

The lagoon and its surrounding area is classified as protected landscape and is the largest natural reservoir of the Azores surface freshwater, occupying a vast area that reaches 4.35 square kilometers, with a depth of 33 meters.

It is characterized by double staining of its waters, and divided by a shallow canal, crossed by a low bridge that separates the tone water green and tone water blue .


Reserva Florestal de Recreio do Pinhal da Paz

A Reserva Florestal de Recreio do Pinhal da Paz or also known as Mata das Criações is a Portuguese forest park located in Fajã de Cima.

This park has an area of 49 hectares and is at an altitude of 240 meters.

It was created by in order to provide a recreation area . So this park was equipped with picnic area that includes infrastructure such as tables, benches, grills with conditions for an outdoor recreational meal.

One of the specificities of this park is that all the material in current use have been prepared with the use of traditional building materials, with a view to good landscaping.

Throughout much of the pine forest, and for the sporting activities a physical fitness course with 1700 meters and six exercise stations was built.

Gruta de Carvão

The Gruta do Carvão is a geological formation of volcanic origin located in the municipality of Ponta Delgada.

It is a natural monument consisting of 4 sections and is in West Ponta Delgada area, forming the largest lava tunnel of São Miguel Island. It was closed for several years but now returned to be explored, and it is possible, on a guided tour, go about 1250 meters, in two separate sections.

This cave has an average height of around 2 to 3 meters, with places where this exceeds 5 meters.
